A Single Vineyard
The vineyard is situated in Elandskloof, an isolated valley north of Villiersdorp. This valley is 5km wide and is surrounded by a steep mountain range that rises 1km from the valley floor.
The steep topography causes the valley to receive less direct sunlight due to the overshadowing mountains. is, together with the elevation of 600 to 800m above sea level, equates to a very cool climate for the valley.
The grapes are picked by hand at the coolest time of the day. After a gentle pressing, and a stating setting, the juice goes to 300 litres barrels. Long fermentation allow the wine to show all its potential. The wine then is aged a minimum of 12 months in wood.
Fuller gold than most. Wild with an extra dimension. Very complete. Extremely fine and precise with a strong mineral undertow. Lovely laciness of texture and great balance.
From grapes grown in Elandskloof and sourced through Peter-Allan Finlayson of Crystallum. Blossom and dried herbs before pear and citrus. Light bodied, focused and tight. Pure fruit and an exhilarating line of acidity before a pithy finish.
Platter’s tasting notes ****
Tangy entry to 2015 from Kaaimansgat fruit. Cashew & oatmeal oak notes (25% new) add effortlessly elegant cloak to bright citrus & stonefruit flavour. Statuesque & refined, with serious tone & lingering finish.
